Celebrate Niykee Heaton through the covers that made her famous

Niykee Heaton hit viral fame like many in her generation, through YouTube. Her acoustic covers of many hit tracks with her own signature twang coupled with striking good looks has garnered her millions of views and countless fans.

Since then Niykee has been focusing on her original music and released Bad Intentions EP in 2014 and earlier this year, The Bedroom Tour Playlist, a mixtape compiled from her first headlining tour.  Although her release of new music has been slow, she still has tons of old content to look back on and enjoy.

As she’s the midst of the Centerfold Tour, let’s reflect on the covers that made her famous in the first place. Here are the top five.

"Swimming Pools (Drank)" Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank)” is one of his best, and most loved, but when Niykee tackles the track it almost seems like a different song entirely.

"Started From The Bottom" Drake

Although she throws out her singing voice on her cover of “Started From The Bottom,” instead mimicking Drake’s noteworthy voice, she definitely adds a feminine appeal to the popular hit.

"Trap Queen" Fetty Wap

Although Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” may be one of the most covered rap hits of this generation, Niykee’s cover is equal parts delightful and moving. She hits all the notes with the same emotion and conviction as the original.

"Or Nah/Cut Her Off" Medley - Ty Dolla $ign, The Weekend, K Camp

This cover is fun because rather than one hit, it’s several, making for an entertaining and interesting way to remix already well done music.

"Cake" Rihanna

Prior to her birthday, Niykee plays with Rihanna’s “Cake” and this acoustic version comes very close to eclipsing the original.

On October 23, Niykee Heaton will be heating up the Mayan for a Goldenvoice presented event. Buy tickets to the Centerfold Tour on AXS.
