Chicago native hip hop star Chance the Rapper is teaming with Chicago Beyond managing director Liz Dozier to announce the second annual Go Innovate Challenge. Chance and Dozier hopped on Facebook Live on the charity's Facebook page to issue the call for 90-second video submissions about projects and programs that are aimed to improve access and opportunity for Chicago’s youth. Selected winners will receive $2 million toward funding their ideas.
“Chicago's young people possess tremendous potential and deserve every opportunity to thrive and succeed,” said Dozier in a press statement. “We’re looking for nonprofits who are working to unleash that potential and we’re making it easy for any organization to apply. You don’t need sleek production. All you need is a camera phone and a great concept.”
During the Facebook Live session, Chance made it clear more than one organization can be selected to receive $2 million. In other words, multiple winners can receive funding, which means Chicago’s youth can potentially benefit in a myriad of ways.
Per its website, Chicago Beyond is a youth-focused charity which was established in 2016 whose mission is to help organizations grow the impact of their ideas to transform the lives of young people. There were multiple recipients of last year’s challenge, including The Dovetail Project, whose mission is to give young African American fathers, age 17-24, the skills and support they need to be better fathers and community members.
Chance the Rapper is widely known for his far-reaching philanthropic efforts as well as his steadfast commitment to give back to his hometown. Last March, the multiple Grammy-winning artist donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools.
The cool thing about the Go Innovate Challenge is that kids as young as 13 can submit project ideas. Can there be anything more beautiful and inspiring than youth helping youth?
