Chelsea Chandler not ruling out delivering a Stockton Slap at Invicta FC 28

Chelsea Chandler grew up in Stockton and trains with Nate Diaz. So naturally, the question is: Will she dish out a Diaz-esque Stockton Slap at Invicta FC 28?

The pro debuter isn't planning to slap her opponent -- New Hampshire star "Scary" Kerri Kenneson -- in the face. But should the opportunity present itself, it's a possibility. She's not specifically ruling it out. "I don't plan on slapping anyone," Chandler told AXS. "But if it happens, it happens."

For those who don't know, the Stockton Slap is a move made famous by the Diaz brothers -- Nick and Nate -- of UFC fame. It's essentially just a slap in the face, done to embarrass whoever the brothers are facing. It's an effective weapon to inflict damage -- and get in people's heads.

It causes fighters to get angry and emotional, making them forget about technical game plans. The Stockton slap helped Nick and Nate gain the upper hand on more than one occasion. Will Chandler follow suit? The surging bantamweight may or may not implement the move, but she's confident about the scrap, regardless of how it goes down.

"I think it's a great matchup for me," she said of taking on the New Hampshire native. Chandler fights Kenneson on March 24 at the Union Event Center in Salt Lake City, in a marquee 135-pound scrap between two of the promotion's top prospects. Whoever wins could emerge as next in line to challenge for Invicta's vacant bantamweight title.

"I look forward to this fight," Chandler explained of her first pro MMA bout. "It's been a long time coming."

Indeed, it has. Chandler has been grinding it out the past few months in California, working with elite fighters such as Diaz and Leslie "The Peacemaker" Smith. In fact, it was "The Peacemaker" who got the ball rolling on an Invicta contract for the young star. "I honestly have the best team anyone could ask for," Chandler gushed. "Leslie has been a great training partner. My opportunity to debut in Invicta was in part because of her.

"She took me to the Invicta show last August in Fresno, and introduced me to Shannon Knapp. The rest is history." Fight fans can check out Kenneson vs. Chandler, live March 24 on UFC Fight Pass.
