2017 has been a big year for the soulful psych-rock group from L.A. known as Chicano Batman. The quartet have spent nearly their entire 2017 on the road, and will now be closing out the rest of their year with a run of fall tour dates that won't wrap until late November. The fall run starts out with three already sold out hometown shows at L.A.’s Fonda Theatre before spending October and November trekking across North America with support from Khruangbin and emerging indie rock group from New York City known as The Shacks. Fans will remember all three bands had previously toured together back in the spring.
Chicano Batman were initially only scheduled to play two shows at the Fonda Theatre on Sept. 21-22, before ticket sales demanded a third show to be added for Sept. 23, which is now also sold out. Their growing popularity should come as no surprise, as they’ve combined their road warrior mentality and appearances at events like Coachella alongside their involvement in those catchy Johnnie Walker ads to expand their fanbase.
They released their second full-length album back in March with Freedom Is Free. The 12-track LP once again showcased their cultural and musical roots with a melodic mix of songs sung in both English and Spanish. As psychedelic rock continues to re-emerge back into the indie/mainstream realm, Chicano Batman have taken a step forward in volunteering to be one of the more popular names in the movement.
Khruangbin will act as the tour’s opener for nearly every stop on their upcoming fall run, with exception coming during the New Orleans dates in late September.
