Two legendary musicians have announced a show at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas. Longtime collaborators and masters of their respective instruments Chick Corea (piano) and Béla Fleck (banjo) are set to hit the Majestic on May 8, 2019. Chick Corea and Béla Fleck began collaborating in 2007 with their record The Enchantment. A song from the album, “Spectacle,” received a Grammy nod. The fact that “Spectacle” didn’t take home the award may have been of little consequence to both musicians; between them they have nearly 40 Grammy wins. The duo also released a live album in 2015 titled Two, taken from their numerous performances together.
Chick Corea began his career in the early 1960s as a jazz journeyman with a number of notable jazz artists including Willie Bobo, Stan Getz, Herbie Mann, Sam Mitchell and Mongo Santamaria. After releasing a couple of solo albums, Corea replaced Herbie Hancock (another frequent Corea collaborator) in Miles Davis’s band. As such, Chick was on the forefront of the jazz-fusion revolution and recorded on a number of Miles’ seminal fusion albums including Bitches Brew. Corea would go on to have an amazing solo career himself and is widely considered one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time.
Béla Fleck released his debut solo album, Crossing the Tracks, in 1979 but the banjo virtuoso would soon join up with progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival, led by Sam Bush. Fleck is perhaps most well known for his own group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones and for his collaborations with artists such as Corea, Dave Matthews, Edgar Meyer and his wife Abigail Washburn.
Don’t miss your chance to catch these two amazing musicians when they come to the Majestic Theatre in Dallas on May 8.
