Childish Gambino adds dates with Vince Staples to North American tour

Donald Glover a.k.a Childish Gambino has announced that Vince Staples will be joining him on six dates for his upcoming North American tour later this year, which also includes a second night at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Staples will join Glover and Tyler, The Creator for back half of the tour with the recently added gigs in early October. The news comes at the start of a week which will also see the popular actor and musician hosting and performing on “Saturday Night Live” later this weekend.

The second Madison Square Garden concert with Rae Sremmurd will take place on Sept. 15. Additionally, the shows with Vince Staples and Tyler, The Creator, who just wrapped up their own big North American run together, will start on Oct. 2 in San Jose, California, and will see them performing at The Forum in Los Angeles, Glendale and Denver before closing out on Oct. 12 in Nashville. Staples and Glover have never toured together, but both artists appeared on a song titled “Waiting For My Moment,” which was recorded for the 2015 sports blockbuster, “Creed,” and can be heard in the video below.

The upcoming fall tour will be Glover’s first real concert run in promotion of his highly acclaimed 2016 studio album, Awaken, My Love! With someone like Glover, whose creative ambitions soar well above just the realm of music, it’s tough to say when he’ll have the time or desire to tour again. The rapper has stated previously that there may only be one final Childish Gambino album left in the tank, so fans should look at this tour as a rarity in pop music that shouldn’t be missed out on.

Vince Staples is another artist within the mainstream hip-hop realm who also continues to flourish heading into 2018. The 24-year-old rapper from Compton, California, released his sophomore studio effort in 2017 with Big Fish Theory, which featured production work from Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Aussie DJ Flume. The album also welcomed vocal cameos from fellow Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar, as well as Ty Dolla $ign, ASAP RockyDamon Albarn and more.

More recently, Staples set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of retiring early - join the club Vince - while also helping to promote his new single, “Get the F*ck Off My D*ck.”
