NBC’s popular sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” will be closing out its 43rd season with a string of excellent musical guests. Announced on Wednesday, Childish Gambino (May 5), Kacey Musgraves (May 12) and Nicki Minaj (May 19) will be the featured musical guests on what has already been a pretty loaded year of episodes in terms of musical performances.
So far this season, “SNL” has welcomed musical guests including Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Eminem, U2, Arcade Fire, Jack White and Cardi B. As previously reported, Donald Glover’s upcoming appearance on the show on May 5 will be as both the host and musical guest. The talented actor and comedian has never appeared on the “SNL” stage before, although he did help his hip-hop buddy Chance The Rapper in coming up with a few sketch ideas prior to his own hosting appearance back in November. Speaking of hosts, the famous personalities also set to appear on the final episodes of this season, aside from Glover, will be Amy Schumer on May 12, and former “SNL” favorite Tina Fey on May 19.
Kacey Musgraves released her latest album late last month with Golden Hour. It’s unclear which track off the country album she’ll perform on the show, but she could always release a new single just in time for her “Saturday Night Live” debut. As for Ms. Minaj, the rapper has been in the news lately thanks to her celebrity/pop-culture rivalry tie-in to Cardi B. Earlier this month, Minaj released a pair of singles with “"Barbie Tingz" and "Chun-Li," which with both presumably appear on her follow-up album to 2014’s The Pinkprint when it possibly arrives later this year.
Minaj has twice appeared on “SNL” as the show’s musical guest in 2011 and again in 2014. A clip of the rapper impersonating Kim Kardashian during an episode from 2014 can be watched in the video above.
