Although Chris Robinson has found contentment and success with his current project Chris Robinson Brotherhood, the singer will always be associated with his first band, '90s blues rock favorites the Black Crowes. Now, Robinson has announced a new project that will see him revisiting the early music of his career.
As The Crow Flies is a collaboration between Robinson and guitarists Marcus King and Audley Freed, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Andy Hess and drummer Tony Leone. The group will be performing Black Crowes originals and other music throughout Robinson's history on their just-announced 17-date tour this Spring.
As The Crow Flies will launch their tour on April 17 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. The tour wraps up on May 13 at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR. Check the band's full tour routing below; tickets for their tour go on sale this Friday, Jan. 12. Get tickets to select concerts right here on AXS.com.
Although Robinson sounds excited to perform Black Crowes music for the first time since the band split up in 2013, this project sprung up thanks to a short break in the schedule of the hard-working CRB.
"I'm not flogging away in the Black Crowes anymore, so there's a celebratory element to it," Robinson told Rolling Stone about his new project. "If I haven't sang 'She Talks to Angels' for five years, I'm going to have fun singing it every night for a few weeks."
Robinson isn't exaggerating when he mentions the limited life-span of the new band.
"We're not going in the studio. We're not unleashing another leg at the end of this," Robinson told Rolling Stone. "It is just a little celebration of those songs with this group of people."
The limited engagement will no doubt make these shows all the more memorable, so don't miss your opportunity to revisit the music of the Black Crowes and Robinson's remarkable voice when As The Crow Flies hits the road this spring. Check out their tour itinerary below and revisit a live performance of the Black Crowes classics "Hard To Handle" and "Remedy" in the video embedded above.
