Young has been on tour to promote his 2017 album Losing Sleep, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart. AEG Presents and Concerts West are promoting his 2018 tour.

On May 8, Young was in Nashville to host the CMA Foundation's third annual Music Teachers in Excellence Awards, which honors music educators in the United States. NBC News was there when Young went back to his hometown of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to visit Brenda Gregory, his former choir teacher at Siegel High School. Gregory told NBC News: "When Chris was in my classroom as a freshman, I knew that he had that spark. I just thought to myself, 'This kid is going to go someplace.'"
