The holiday seasons brings with it plenty of live entertainment, whether it's annual Christmas concerts or seasonal theatrical productions. This Christmas, enjoy the magic of the classic ballet "The Nutcracker" when it comes to Atlanta's Infinite Energy Theater starting Dec. 1.

The Gwinnett Ballet Theatre will present the ballet as part of their 40th anniversary season, with music from the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre Orchestra, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Dec. 17. The run will also include special sensory-friendly performances, a scout show, school shows, and a small number of performances without the orchestra.

"The Nutcracker," with music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, first premiered in 1892, but gained popularity in the 1960s and has since become a Christmas tradition for ballet companies around the country. It tells the fantastical story of a young girl's journey late one night when the nutcracker she'd received as a gift comes to life and is based on the E. T. A. Hoffmann story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King."
