A classic tale of Christmas magic returns to Pikes Peak Center this holiday season when the Colorado Springs Philharmonic presents the beloved ballet The Nutcracker over Thanksgiving weekend.
At the helm of conductor Thomas Wilson, the Oklahoma City Ballet and Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale will perform the famed work on November 29, 30 and December 1 during a mix of matinee and evening shows. Local students who encouraged to audition to take part in the production. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 24.
The Nutcracker — a two-act ballet scored by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1892 — is the story of a young girl, Clara, whose mysterious godfather presents with her a nutcracker, which comes to life after a Christmas party to battle mice with other toys. He then takes Clara on a whimsical journey to a world full of magic and wonder.
The ballet has become a holiday staple, making it the perfect show to ring in the festive season following the Thanksgiving holiday.
