Chicago is a city that embraces fall like few other towns of its ilk.

The Windy City lives up to its name during the winter, which is why many families in and around the city head to the numerous pumpkin patches and corn mazes that dot Chicagoland to get their fix of this beautiful transition season before the weather turns cold. So if you’re searching for the perfect patch or maze this fall, check out the following venues for a fall good time.

Every fall, the city of Chicago puts on pumpkin patches at city parks all over town. One such patch that residents should make a visit to is the pumpkin patch at Rainey Park. With a nice variety of pumpkins that families can choose from, plus activities such as pony rides and games that will keep the kids entertained, the Rainey Park pumpkin patch is a must-visit for fall lovers who may not want to venture beyond the city.

While pumpkin patches within the city are a lot of fun, nothing can duplicate the experience of picking the perfect pumpkin from a farm. Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch in the town of Hampshire fits that bill perfectly. Open since 1978, Goebbert’s is an expert at pumpkins, and families will have a plethora of pumpkins big and small to choose from. Don’t just come here for the pumpkins, however, as Goebbert’s also has activities such as the bunnies of Bunny Town and the “Pumpkin Express” that will leave the kids very impressed.

This suburban farm is what you may call “a destination pumpkin farm.” The patch at Bengtson’s Pumpkin Farm has one of the largest selection of pumpkins in the Chicagoland area. Though you’ll have to pay an admission fee to enter (check the website for the fee), it will be worth it to experience a true fall wonderland. From a 90-foot-tall mega fun slide to the southern smells of Uncle Bub’s BBQ, there will be no shortage of fun at Bengtson’s Pumpkin Farm.

The celebration of Halloween and fall will be the major theme at this famed farm. Didier Farms is a gem in Chicago’s pumpkin patch universe, a place where kids can play in the Pumpkin Playground while the parents visit the pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect pumpkin. This farm even has an escape room, the Mobile Escape Room that will give all those who enter 15 minutes to solve the riddle to escape the room. Now, how’s that for fall fun?
