The event, headlined with a world championship title fight pitting Cris "Cyborg" against Holly "The Preacher's Daughter" Holm, is easily the most anticipated UFC show of the year. With Holm holding out for a bigger paycheck, it was looking like this championship bout was not going to happen.
"Cyborg" ripped the former bantamweight champ on social media, saying that Holm was using money as an excuse to duck out of the fight. But now that both sides have officially signed on to scrap, it looks like the fight is definitely going to happen.
That's good news for fight fans, as this match features two of the top strikers in the world at 145 pounds. "Cyborg," the UFC's reigning featherweight kingpin, is coming off an impressive victory over Tonya "Triple Threat" Evinger. As for Holm, the 36-year-old gets her second crack at featherweight gold after finishing Bethe Correia in June.
Elsewhere on the card, Edson Barboza takes on Khabib Nurmagomedov in a lightweight clash that could determine who's next for a world title shot. It has also been announced that former strawweight champ Carla "Cookie Monster" Esparza will fight Cynthia Cavillo, likely on the main card. More fights for this historic card are likely to be announced in the days and weeks ahead.
