Bauhaus’ Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins will be DJing at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre later this month, as part of a night in tribute to David Bowie. They’ll be joined by fellow DJs Matthew Pernicano and Danny Lethal for the Sex Cells: 1 Year Anniversary party on Friday, Jan. 26. Formed one year ago last winter, Sex Cells started as a recurring party at the Echoplex, which according to LA Weekly, provides “a provocative, gender-bending, dress-up parade featuring performance artists, DJs and musical acts.”
Ash and Haskins, formerly of the English post-punk band known as Bauhaus, made headlines last year when they regrouped under a new name as Poptone and hit the road for a tour across the country. The two recruited Haskin’s daughter, Diva Dompe, to play bass alongside them, and embarked on what turned out to be nearly a year-long tour campaign white started in May and ended up running until early December. For their upcoming DJ sets, they may or may not slide some old Bauhaus tracks into the set, but as long as plenty of Bowie is blaring through the speakers, everyone wins.
Tickets for the Jan. 26 event, which welcomes all types of fun and flamboyant characters from Los Angeles’ gay and goth nightlife scenes as part of its monthly residency, is open to anyone with an adventurous spirit over the age of 18. Tickets for the one-night Bowie-themed party start at $20 and can be purchased by clicking here.
