Earlier this month, rapper Dave East announced via Twitter that he will launch a 15 date North American tour beginning in mid-January. The Def Jam Recordings MC is touring in support of his forthcoming mixtape Paranoia 2, which is due out Jan. 16. As part of the tour, East will be playing shows in New York, Boston, Baltimore, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Los Angeles, Seattle and Denver, Colo.’s own Bluebird Theater.
Born David Brewster, Jr., East is native of Harlem, N.Y. who began his career in music in 2010 with the release of his first mixtape, Change of Plans. Although East proved to be a gifted storyteller and talented lyricist from the onset, it wasn’t until 2014 that he achieved a mainstream breakthrough. In that year, hip-hop icon Nas heard East’s music and signed him to his Mass Appeal label.
The cosign from one of the biggest names in rap helped East break into the mainstream as he was selected as one of XXL magazine’s Freshman Class of 2016 and made a featured appearance at that year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. Cementing his status as one of the most exciting new acts in hip-hop, East’s first record Paranoia: A True Story, debuted at number nine on Billboard’s 200 albums chart.
