Last April, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, mother of Foo Fighters/Nirvana member Dave Grohl, published a book which documented her stories as the mom to one of the world’s biggest musicians along with the help of other mothers titled, “From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars.” The book featured contributions via interview with moms who have also lived a similar journey, including Verna Griffin (Dr. Dre), Marianne Stipe (Michael Stipe of R.E.M.), Janis Winehouse (Amy Winehouse), Patsy Noah (Adam Levine), Donna Haim (Haim sisters) and more. The book was such a success that it now appears that Endeavor Content (production company between WME and IMG) will bring Virginia and the other mom’s stories to the small screen with a new docuseries, Variety reports.
According to the report, the new series will “employ excerpts from years of interviews with the mothers of global superstars,” which also includes the mothers of artists like Pharrell Williams and Tom Morello, in addition to plenty of Hanlon Grohl’s own stories and collection of family photos. The series will be executive produced by Dave and his mother, along with Heather Parry and Michael Rapino of Live Nation.
“I’m excited to introduce the viewing public to the strong, loving women who have supported the insistent dreams of their musical sons and daughters,” Hanlon Grohl said in a statement. “To Sandi Clark, who learned the music business from a book and launched her son’s [Gary Clark jr.] ]career – and Mary Weinrib, who had to cancel her own dreams of an education to allow her son [Geddy Lee] to thrive with RUSH … Viewers will join all the mothers around a table when they meet for the first time at a celebratory dinner where secrets and stories will be shared and compared.”
There’s been no word as to where the series may land, but there’s a chance that it could/should possibly end up on a non-cable outlet like Netflix of HBO, which is home to Dave Grohl’s award-winning 2014 docuseries, “Sonic Highways.”
