Gorillaz had to cut their recent performance at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival short when rapper Del The Funky Homosapien fell from the stage during the group’s last song, “Clint Eastwood,” as Rolling Stone reported. Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn cut the music on the song when it became apparent that Del was injured.
“Thank you all for the love! I’m doing alright but will be in the hospital for a bit,” Del tweeted after the accident. You can read the entire tweet, including Roskilde's statement, below.
Albarn recently gave an update on Del’s status in an interview on Beats 1, as Pitchfork reported. According to Albarn, Del--who remains hospitalized in Roskilde--sustained serious injuries including seven broken ribs as well as punctured and lacerated lungs. “He’s gonna be fine,” Albarn stated but continued on to say, “It’s an awful, awful thing that I can’t quite believe. I keep playing it through my head.”
The Gorillaz will continue to tour around their latest album The Now Now, which arrived on June 29. Albarn and company recently released a video for The Now Now track “Hollywood” featuring Snoop Dogg and Jamie Principle. You can watch the video on AXS by following this link.
