Looking at the electronic dance music field today, and it’s easy for a duo like DVBBS to get lost in the shuffle.
Not because they're not a good duo, they're one of the best; but because there's such a huge amount of EDM artists out there trying to make a name for themselves, and duos who deserve the attention sometimes slip between the electro cracks.
Though it’s easy, the Canadian EDM duo has found a way to stand out from the pack, and that’s what makes their latest single, “IDWK,” which is such a wonderful slice of breezy electro to dance to on a warm and humid summer evening.
Teaming up with hip-hop artist Blackbear, “IDWK” slowly works its way into the conscious of the listener, setting off a slow, controlled explosion of electro vibes that has made this duo one to watch in the future.
Songs like “IDWK” has long been the handy work of DVBBS ever since they exploded onto the EDM scene in 2012. The Van den Hoef brothers of Alexandre and Christopher have a true gift of mixing the right beats to get a room moving.
Though many tries, not many can perfect it the way DVBBS can. Their breezy, chill beats are taking them to heights that only a few have ever visited, and “IDWK” is a track that puts them one step closer to the Mount Rushmore of EDM greats.
The song starts out with that modern lyrical stance that has become standard protocol for every pop/dance hybrid; but then, like a smoldering flicker, the track slowly fans to life with each progressing second. One can tell that DVBBS spent a considerable amount of time in their lab experimenting with the recipe to the sound, which contains two cups of tropical, bright synths, with an added teaspoon of Blackbear’s soft, relaxed vocals.
Mix them all together and you have a track that will fit right in on a summer playlist. Whether one is at a pool party or a small chill session, “IDWK” is a rare EDM groove that is perfect for any type of scenario. There is a reason why DVBBS is a constant headliner at many of the world’s most popular festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza, and it’s because of songs like “IDWK.”
To put it in short form, this is a track that one’s summer playlist should not be without. Check out the video for the track above.
