Ed Sheeran’s Aussie love affair continues as Divide tops the Australian Albums Chart for the second week in a row and “Shape of You” reigns at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for an impressive 10th consecutive week.
Meanwhile, “Castle on the Hill” holds on to the No. 2 spot on the Singles Chart for its 10th week as well and his massively popular Irish-themed track “Galway Girl” climbs up three notches from No. 10 to No. 7. Ten more Divide tracks remain in the ARIA Singles Chart Top 50 with “Dive” and “Perfect” falling just outside the Top 10 at No. 11 and No. 12, respectively.
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer probably had no idea he would ultimately usher in a musical Era of Ed Sheeran in 2017 when he dropped his highly-anticipated third studio album to the masses on March 3. But, that’s what he’s effectively done. He singlehandedly rules the UK Album Chart by moving another 304,000 units this week and he still captures nine out of 10 Top 10 slots in the Singles Chart.
Chainsmokers and Coldplay’s groovy collaboration “Something Just Like This” continues to lock Sheeran out of completely owning the UK Top 10 by logging in at No. 4 this week and forcing Sheeran’s romantic ballad “Perfect” down a notch to No. 5. Katy Perry’s politically-charged collaboration with Skip Marley “Chained to the Rhythm” notably climbs from No. 17 to No. 11 this week.
As previously reported, Sheeran busted into Perry’s pre-BRIT Awards BBC 1 Radio interview and the pair of pop stars got along quite well. We’ll have to wait and see if Perry will roar her way into the UK Top 10 and finally oust one of Sheeran’s tracks out the solid-blue square lineup.
