Ed Sheeran took time out from his incredibly busy schedule to spread some Christmas cheer to some lucky fans in New York City on Dec. 8. The “Shape of You” singer rolled up his sleeves as part of the #SpotifyFansFirst program in which 30 special fans were selected by Spotify to decorate “GingerEd” cookies with the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter.
Per Billboard, the event took place ahead of Sheeran’s performance at Z100’s Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden. Renowned chef Dominique Ansel hosted the event and showed everyone how to make the best cookies and then Sheeran pitched in beside his adoring Sheerios to help decorate them.
Various fans took to social media to commemorate the amazing experience, in which Sheerio stood next to them in a hunter green apron bearing his name as “Chef Ed.” Alexandra D’Aluisio tweeted, “Happy Friday I just decorated Christmas cookies with Ed Sheeran.” In her photo, they are standing across from each other with a tray of cookies between them.
Sheeran was in New York just after being named an MBE by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace on Dec. 7. He’s had a massively successful year with his critically-acclaimed third studio album ÷ (Divide). He was officially named the most streamed artist on Spotify for 2017. A new remix of his self-professed “favorite” song, “Perfect,” featuring Beyoncé recently topped the UK Singles Chart and also topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart here in the U.S. Sheeran also announced plans to release another “Perfect” duet with world-renowned vocalist Andrea Bocelli before Christmas.
