Elvis Presley's Graceland to open hotel

Elvis may have left the building but the memories of the King of Rock-N-Roll live on in Memphis, Tennessee. The Guesthouse at Graceland a 450 room hotel will be opening Oct. 27, 2016. The six story hotel is just steps from Presley's former home.  The luxury hotel is the most significant enhancement to Graceland since it opened in 1982 as a museum for Presley's fans.

The hotel will employ about 450 people from the Memphis area and will have rooms that range in prices from $149 for basic rooms to $1,300 for the highest-priced suite. The location is currently accepting reservations. The official opening for The Guest House at Graceland will take place Oct. 27 through 30, 2016, with a star-studded Grand Opening Celebration. Opening activities will include a Guest House ribbon-cutting ceremony, exclusive live concerts, celebrity appearances and red carpet VIP events throughout the weekend.

The exterior evokes the feel of a comfortable Southern Colonial home, but the interior design and amenities will be modern. The facility will include two restaurants, spaces for meetings and special events, a swimming pool, as well as a 464 seat theater for live performances and movies. The location lets Elvis fans stay within walking distance of Graceland.

The previous and aging Presley based, Heartbreak Hotel, is scheduled for demolition. The Heartbreak Hotel features 128 rooms and remains open at this time and will remain open until the new hotel opens nearby.

Presley died on Aug. 16, 1977, and Graceland was eventually turned into a museum. Read more about Elvis Presley and Graceland here.
