Eric Clapton announces DVD and soundtrack release for documentary 'Life in 12 Bars'

Eric Clapton fans can tuck away some coin for the upcoming home video release of his 2017 documentary “Life in 12 Bars.” The film and soundtrack will be released in multiple formats on June 8 via Ume/Universal.

The three-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer dropped the news on April 13 at his official Eric Clapton website. Directed by  Lili Fini Zanuck, the film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last fall and is currently streaming on Showtime.

The documentary provides an in-depth examination of the 18-time Grammy winner's life via rare archival footage and interviews. The accompanying 32-track soundtrack features performances from The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & the Dominos, among many others.

Bonuses include five previously unreleased tracks by Cream, as well as by Derek & the Dominos. Cream fans can look forward to a 17-minute rendition of “Spoonful,” from a 1968 performance in Los Angeles at The Forum. Also included are two tracks from Derek and the Dominos, including 1971 studio outtake of  “High” and a 1970 live cover of “Little Wings”at the Fillmore East along with two Clapton solo tracks, including the full version of his 1974 single “I Shot the Sheriff” and a 1974 live cover of “Little Queenie.”

“Life in 12 Bars” is available for preorder here in DVD and Blu-ray, as well as in 2-CD and 4-LP formats. Fans can check out an official trailer from the documentary above and see the full track listing below.

Clapton has only a handful of live dates scheduled in 2018, which include a huge live show headline appearance on July 8 at London's historic Hyde Park as part of  Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time (BST) concert series, as well as a two-night stand from Oct. 6 – Oct. 7 in New York at Madison Square Garden.
