Ex Hex announces sophomore studio album, shares lead single with spring tour dates

Ex Hex is headed back out on the road this spring, and the garage rock trio will have a fresh batch of original material ready to play for their fans when they do. The trio comprised of Mary Timony (Helium), Betsy Wright and Laura Harris announced earlier this week that their sophomore studio album, It’s Real, will arrive on March 22 via Merge Records. The group will then head out on a lengthy concert tour across North America and the United Kingdom to promote their new album beginning in early April.

The announcement earlier this week included the release of the lead single from It's Real , titled, “Cosmic Cave”. Fans can check out the audio-only video seen above to hear the uptempo rock track. "Cosmic Cave" is a wonderful introduction to the band’s next album cycle, and proves they haven’t lost their small but potent chemistry as one of the brighter acts in the questionable indie rock genre at the moment.

The upcoming release of It’s Real will be the band’s first full-length album since Rips arrived back in the fall of 2014. The trio released a 7” titled Hot and Cold back in 2014, and even embarked on a brief, four-date concert tour along the eastern U.S. last fall. The band’s bassist, Betsy Wright, had been busy throughout 2018 while touring to promote the debut album for one of her other side projects, Bat Fangs.

The band’s spring tour with support from Moaning, FEELS, Japenese Breakfast and The Masstheticsis is scheduled to begin on April 2 in Richmond, Virginia, and runs for 29-shows over a month-and-a-half before wrapping on May 10. Scheduled stops on the tour include shows at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, Denver’s Bluebird Theater and San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, just to name a few.
