You’ve probably heard the song “I Wan’na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)” from Disney’s film “The Jungle Book,” but you probably haven’t heard it with a modern twist. In a new cover by Fall Out Boy, the song gets a punk rock makeover almost 50 years after its release.
Fall Out Boy’s cover of “I Wan’na Be Like You” was released via Rolling Stone’s website on October 21 and is just over three minutes of fast-paced fun; you can check out the single on the magazine's website. As reported previously on AXS, the song is part of the tribute album We Love Disney. The album, which will be released October 30, includes covers of favorite Disney songs by many of today’s top artists. Disney fan can hear NE-YO perform “Friend Like Me,” Gwen Stefani cover “The Rainbow Connection,” Ariana Grande sing “Zero To Hero,” Kacey Musgraves perform “A Spoonful of Sugar” and more. Details regarding the album are available via the website for We Love Disney.
Fan response to Fall Out Boy’s take on “I Wan’na Be Like You” was overwhelmingly positive. On the band’s official Facebook page, many fans praised the band for giving the song an updated sound and putting their own mark on the classic hit. The Disney movie “The Jungle Book” was released in 1967 and includes the vocal talents of Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot and George Sanders.
Fall Out Boy is releasing remixes and covers of the band’s own material, too. Make America Pscyho Again will be released October 30 and features rap remixes of the band’s latest album American Beauty/American Psycho. The upcoming album is available for pre-order and includes Wiz Khalifa, Migos, Azealia Banks and Juicy J. The band also released a new version of their single “Irresistible” featuring Demi Lovato earlier this month.
The Chicago-based punk rock band is also embarking on a new tour in February with AWOLNATION and PVRIS. Wintour includes shows in New York City, Louisville, Chicago, Phoenix and more before wrapping up March 26 in Irvine, California. Tour details are available on Fall Out Boy’s website.
