Family friendly events in Indianapolis for New Year's Eve 2017

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at one of the family-friendly holiday events in Indianapolis as 2017 turns into 2018. Kids and adults will enjoy ringing in the New Year by seeing festive holiday lights, ice skating at one of the rinks in the area, and enjoying the holiday events this holiday season.

Family New Year’s Eve
Dec. 31 @ 6 p.m.
Indiana State Museum, 650 W. Washington St., IN 46204

The family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration will include face painting, magicians, kid-friendly activities, music, and more. Ring in the New Year early with a balloon drop at 8 p.m. Admission will be $9-$15, and children under age 4 will be admitted free. Reservations are recommended.

Countdown to Noon

 Ring in the New Year early at this daytime celebration featuring family-friendly activities, music from Grammy-nominated Zak Morgan, and more. There will be countdowns at noon and at 1 p.m. Learn how to say “Happy New Year!” To people from all over the world. Admission will be included with museum admission. ($19-$23.95).

Indiana Chinese Lantern Festival

Indiana State Fairgrounds’ Celebration Park, 1202 E. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46205

The Chinese Lantern Festival is a stunning display of  33 colorful Chinese displays, illuminated with tens of thousands of glowing LED lights. Nightly performances will offer guests a glimpse of Chinese culture. Tickets are $10-$15.

Winterlights at Newfields

Take the family for a stroll through Winterlights at Newfields to see a million lights as they glow. The attractions will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, so this will be a great way to ring in 2018. Tickets will be $8-$12.  

Jingle Rails at Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art

Take the family to the Eiteljorg Museum to see their imaginative holiday model train exhibit, “Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure.” Kids and adults will delight in the western wonderland of Indianapolis and the great American West. Admission: $7-$13.

The Ice at Center Green

Skate into the New Year by skating at The Ice at Center Green for a healthy start to 2018.  the ice rink will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.  Admission to the ice skating rink will be $6-$9 for a 90-minute session, skate rental will be $3.
