Family friendly events in Kansas City for New Year's Eve 2017

Celebrate the New Year by enjoying some of the family-friendly events in Kansas City as 2017 turns into 2018. Take the family to enjoy Zoo Year’s Eve at the Kansas City Zoo or Noon Year’s Eve at Science City at Union Station. There will also be ice skating and holiday light shows galore in the area.

Holidays Come Alive at Union Station
Nov. 18 - Dec. 31 Various days

Union Station features holiday entertainment and decorations through the holiday season. The Kansas City Culinary Arts School’s Gingerbread House Display will be there through Jan. 1. The gigantic Astro Botanicals Sculptures will be on display in the yard through Dec. 31.

Noon Year’s Eve

The 5th Annual Noon Year’s Eve will be the place to have a fun, educational, and safe New Year’s Eve party for children and their parents. The daytime celebration will feature the magic of science, stage shows, and more. A New Year’s Eve Balloon Drop will delight families at 6 p.m.

Zoo Year’s Eve

Kids and adults will enjoy ringing in the New Year with a special family-friendly event at the Kansas City Zoo. Dance to the beats of the interactive DJ, make a noisemaker and jump into the photo booth for a picture. Celebrate as the penguins, polar bears, and other animals enjoy special enrichment items. Zoo Year’s Eve is included with regular zoo admission ($11.50-$14.50). The Kansas City Zoo will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Crown Center Ice Terrace

Crown Plaza will still be decorated for the holidays and the Mayor’s Christmas tree will still be on display through the beginning of January. The Crown Center Ice Terrace will be open for ice skating on New Year’s Eve (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and New Year’s Day (noon-9 p.m.), so take the family ice skating in this festively decorated plaza.  Admission is $6, free for adults over 60 and children age 4 and under. Skaters age 12 and under must be under supervision of a parent or guardian

The Ice at Park Place

The outdoor ice rink will be open daily, including holidays, so this would be a great place to take the family for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to get a start on any New Year’s resolutions to get more exercise. Admission $8. Bring your own skates or you can rent skates for $3.

Christmas in the Park

New Year’s Eve will be the final night of the Christmas in the Park holiday drive-through light show in Lee's Summit. Take the family to see the park festooned with over 300,000 sparkling lights before the end of the year. Admission is free, but they will accept donations upon exiting the park. 

88th Annual KCP&L Plaza Lighting Ceremony
Nov. 23 – Jan. 14. @ 5 p.m.
Country Club Plaza, Nichols Rd. & Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO 64112

The KCP&L Plaza will be illuminated through Jan. 14, so this will be a festive sight on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day and into the beginning of 2018. Take the family to enjoy the holiday lights and decorations.

Holiday Lights on Farmstead Land

The entire family will enjoy this drive-through holiday light show, which will run through Jan. 7, 2018. Enjoy the light from the comfort of your car. Bring some refreshments like hot cocoa and cookies and bundle up to enjoy the show. Please turn off your car lights so everyone can enjoy the dazzling holiday lights.
