Festive Christmas events in San Diego will offer fun and entertainment for the family in 2017. Take the family to enjoy holiday lights and decorations, visits with Santa, Christmas music and time spent having fun together.

Skating by the Sea
Nov. 25-Jan. 1 @ 11 a.m.
Hotel del Coronado, 1500 Orange Ave., Coronado, CA 92118

Take the family to Hotel del Coronado for the thrill of ice skating at their outdoor ice rink, which overlooks the ocean. The Hotel del Coronado is festively decorated with lights for the holiday season, so the hotel and ice rink is festive with holiday atmosphere. The admission fee is $30 per person and includes skate rental.

Balboa Park December Nights
Dec. 1-2
Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101

Kids and adults will have fun as they enjoy dazzling holiday lights,  entertainment, music, and food on December Nights, a holiday event that attracts more than 350,000 guests each year. Admission is free.

Little Italy Tree Lighting & Christmas Village
Dec. 2 @ 4 p.m.
Little Italy, India St., & W. Fir St., San Diego, CA 92101

The entire family will have fun at the 19th Annual Little Italy Tree Lighting, which will include music, live entertainment, holiday treats, horse carriage rides, visits with Santa Claus and more. The Christmas tree will be decorated with more than 1,100 poinsettias and will be illuminated, for a beautiful holiday scene. Vendors will be stationed along India Street, offering holiday items for sale.

Christmas on Crystal Pier
Dec. 2 @ 2 p.m.
Crystal Pier, 4500 Ocean Blvd., San Diego, CA 92109

Take the family for pictures with Santa at the end of historic Crystal Pier. The pier will be decorated with wreaths and the tree lighting will be at sunset. The cost will be $10/person, or $5 along with a donation o school supplies.

Starlight Parade & Children’s Faire

Third Ave. between E and H Streets, Chula Vista, CA 91911

The Children’s Faire will be in Memorial Park from 2-5 p.m., offering fun for kids before the parade. Activities will include visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, story times, arts & crafts, a gingerbread bounce house, a children’s train, and more.

La Jolla Christmas Parade & Holiday Festival
Dec. 3 @ 1:30 p.m.
La Jolla Recreation Center, La Jolla, CA 92037

Celebrate the holiday season the “Christmas Jewels” parade and holiday festival in La Jolla. The Christmas Parade will step off at 1:30 p.m., followed by family-friendly activities and entertainment. The festivities will include Candy Cane Lane, KidsZone with pony rides and inflatables, face painting, musical entertainment, Ice Princess Frozen & Belle, and photos with Santa. The Community Christmas Tree Lighting will be at 4:30 p.m.

Santa by the Sea at Del Mar Village

Take the family to this fun-filled holiday event in Del Mar. Bring your own camera to take free photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus. Listen to live music by the Original Dickens Carolers and enjoy family-friendly activities. The Annual Holiday Tree Lighting will be at 5 p.m.

SeaWorld's Christmas Celebration

SeaWorld is festively decorated with holiday lights and music fills the air. They are featuring an all-new live Nativity Musical in 2017. The family will be delighted by the Happiest Christmas Tree, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus, and more. See the SeaWorld website for ticket information. 

Garden of Lights 2017
Dec. 1-23 & 26-30 @ 5 p.m.
San Diego Botanic Garden, 230 Quail Gardens Dr., Encinitas, CA 92024

The San Diego Botanic Garden will be illuminated with sparkling lights illuminating it into a winter wonderland. The family will enjoy the festive activities, including horse-drawn wagon rides, holiday crafts, visits with Santa, and more. Admission will be $5-20.

Coronado Holiday Festival
Dec. 6 @ 4 p.m.

The entire family will enjoy the Annual Holiday Festival in Coronado, which will feature ice skating demonstrations, musical performances by local school choirs, carnival games, and more. Santa will be available for photos, starting at 3 p.m. ($15). The evening event will be capped off with a colorful show of fireworks at 6:45 p.m. Admission will be free.

Jungle Bells
Dec. 8-Jan. 1 (No Jungle Bells on Dec. 24)
San Diego Zoo, San Diego, CA 92112

The San Diego Zoo will be festively decorated with twinkling lights, transforming it into a winter wonderland. Kids and adults will have a great time seeing the animal light sculptures, holiday music, acrobatics, trampoline elves, and other merry performances. Visit the animals at the animal encounters, including polar bears, Asian leopards, cheetah, racoons, and Children’s Zoo animals. Jungle Bells activities are included with regular zoo admission.

67th Annual Las Posadas
Dec. 9
Old Town, San Diego, CA 92110

Los Posadas will be a day-long event featuring entertainment and family-friendly activities. The Las Posadas procession reenacting the Biblical story of Mary and Joseph and their search for a birthplace for Jesus. Along the way, people will sing traditional holiday songs in both Spanish and English, as they look for lodging at inns. The procession will culminate with a nativity tableau and choir performance. Admission will be free.

Julian Country Christmas
Nov. 25-Jan.  @ 2 p.m.
Pioneer Park, Julian, CA 92036

The idyllic mountain town of Julian will kick off the Country Christmas festivities with the Country Christmas Tree Lighting. The celebration will continue through the holidays, with different family-friendly activities each weekend. On Dec. 3-4 there will be hoedowns, hayrides, a petting zoo, caroling, holiday crafts, and more to delight children and adults.
