Just days ahead of the final week of the Overwatch League's first stage of Season 2, the online sportswear retailer Fanatics revealed the seven best-selling player jerseys from its Overwatch League collection on Thursday.
Daniel “Dafran” Francesca from the Atlanta Reign takes the No. 1 spot, followed by Bang “JJonak” Sung-hyeon from the New York Excelsior. Lane “Surefour” Roberts, Xu "guxue" Qiulin, and Kim “Geguri” Se-yeon take the third to fifth places, while two members from the Philadelphia Fusion, Lee “Carpe" Jae-hyeok and Gael "Poko" Gouzerch, wrap up the list at sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Fanatics initially revealed their partnership with the Overwatch League in December to supply fan gear including jerseys, hard goods, and other apparel throughout the 2019 season.
The first batch of jerseys was met with dismay, however, when a Reddit user posted a photo of their Dafran jersey online. The user’s jersey had dark brownish gray lettering that blended into the gray coloring of the jersey, and the numbers appeared to be iron-on instead of dye printed, causing a backlash from the league's fanbase.
In response to this criticism, Fanatics swapped the brownish gray lettering on the Atlanta Reign jerseys out with a white replacement. The lettering is now clearly distinguishable from the rest of the jersey, allowing fans to proudly boast their favorite players from the Atlanta-based team.
The Overwatch League is moving into its final week of Stage 1, where five additional teams will qualify for the stage playoffs taking place from March 21 to March 24.
