Taking the entire family to the movies is a time-honored experience. For many of us, our earliest memories were forged at the movie theater, in part because as children, we are particularly enchanted by the power of storytelling.
With new technology comes new traditions and the family film experience has been greatly enhanced over the past few years with the emergence of new technologies like 4DX. Instead of being a passive viewer, 4DX puts you inside the move with motion seats that follow the action on screen, in-theatre environmental effects, custom lights and more.
If your family has never experienced 4DX, you won't find a more dazzling introduction to the cutting-edge technology than Disney's "A Wrinkle In Time," which opens March 9. Based on Madeleine L'Engle's beloved 1962 classic, Ava Duvernay's "A Wrinkle In Time" adaptation centers on 13-year-old Meg Murry as she searches across the universe for her missing father alongside classmate Calvin O'Keefe and her precocious little brother Charles Wallace.
With custom strobe effects and flashes of neon light, the kid's "tessers" across the universe are vividly rendered in 4DX. But beyond its fantastical environments, colorfully-costumed characters and immersive action sequences, "A Wrinkle In Time" stays true to the book's themes about the importance of self-acceptance, individualism and determination. Those are crucial lessons for children to learn and combined with the transportive experience of 4DX, they'll register even more strongly with both kids and their parents.
If your family is slightly older, it will be worth taking them to see Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander in "Tomb Raider" when it arrives in 4DX auditoriums on March 16. Like "A Wrinkle In Time," the movie touches on father-daughter relationships as Lara Croft assumes the mantle of treasure-hunting adventurer after discovering her late father's secret journal.
As fans of the video game series have long known, "Tomb Raider" winningly combines artifact-hunting action with exotic locales and Alicia Vikander certainly committed herself to the role. As those who saw "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" in 4DX already know, a lush, tropical environment is spectacular in 4DX, where effects like water and mist are used to transport you inside the action.
So if you or your family are looking for fun, female-focused stories, 4DX has you covered this March. With more auditoriums opening all the time, visit the official 4DX website to find the theater nearest you and be sure to like their Facebook page for exclusive offers and giveaways.
