Denver’s own Fox Street is headed back to the Bluebird Theater for New Year’s Eve weekend, this time for a three night run in what is sure to become a Denver holiday tradition. With Denver as a NYE destination for both national touring bands and fans alike, Fox Street not only felt blessed to be able to play in their hometown for NYE but also saw the need to showcase local talent.
“To get to play a premiere venue, such as the Bluebird, in our hometown, is a very big honor and such a blast,” Fox Street drummer Eric Low said in a statement. “Just getting the opportunity to play a single show is huge, let alone three nights. Especially in Denver, since we have such a competitive and vibrant live music scene.”
“Our vision is to cultivate an annual New Year's Eve event that is centered around Denver local bands and the community,” Low continued. “It's easy to open up Facebook or the Westword and see a myriad of awesome stuff planned for New Year’s celebrations along the front range and when you start to look at the acts in the theaters and bigger venues, none of those artists are local. We are the only option if you want to come see the best local bands Denver has to offer.”
So who are the best local bands Denver has to offer? On Friday, Dec. 29 Fox Street welcomes one of Denver’s best jam bands in Yamn along with Rossonian who NPR Music described as having a “cosmic R&B sound.” Dec. 29 is being billed as "Exile on Fox Street" pointing to a night of Rolling Stones covers. Dec. 30 will be a funk throw-down with one of Denver’s best funk outfits Analog Son as well as the “mountain groove” of local favorites Mlima. NYE will see Fox Street celebrating their vinyl LP release along with Denver darlings Mama Magnolia.
So whether you’re a Denverite or coming in from out of town, get out there and support local music! See below for ticketing info and check out Fox Street's Facebook post for the NYE run.
