The Memorial Day weekend is a time to honor the sacrifices of military veterans who sacrifice for freedom. There will be some great family-friendly Memorial Day events to commemorate the patriotic holiday in Kansas City in 2018.
Bank of America Celebration at the Station

The Kansas City Symphony will perform the 16th annual patriotic concert at this free Memorial Day event and fireworks show. Take the entire family to enjoy the thrill of patriotic music that celebrates the military and veterans. The event will be the largest Memorial Day weekend festival in the Midwest and will feature pre-concert musical acts, the Lee Jeans Family Zone, the Honeywell Veterans Place, food trucks, and more. There will be activities inside Union Station and the National World War I Museum and Memorial. The Kansas City Symphony will perform at dusk (8 p.m.), leading to a grand finale of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” with live cannons and the patriotic song “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to sit on while enjoying the concert and fireworks spectacular.
Memorial Day weekend at the National WWI Museum and Memorial
National WWI Museum and Memorial, 2 Memorial Dr., Kansas City, MO 64108
Admission will be free for veterans and active duty military personnel during Memorial Day weekend. The public will be admitted to the museum for half price. There will be several events during with weekend for kids and adults. There will be a free public ceremony on May 28 at 10 a.m.
Illuminated Waters Festival

The StoneLion Puppet Theatre will present a free festival and entertainment for the family at Theis Park. The two-day event will feature arts and entertainment, puppetry with giant puppets, music, interactive games, food trucks, and more.
30th Annual Salute to Veterans Celebration and Airshow

The 30th Annual Salute to Veterans Celebration and Airshow will be free and open to the public. The entire family will have fun learning about aircraft and military history at this patriotic event.

Going the Distance for Brain Injury Memorial Day Run

Loose Park Pavilion, 5100 Womall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64112
This event will raise awareness about the people affected by brain injury. Events will include the 10K and 5K Walk for Thought and Fun4Kids. Event fees are $10-$40.
