Memorial Day weekend in New York will be filled with enough family-friendly events for everyone to enjoy. From Fleet Week activities and Memorial Day commemorations and parades throughout the city, here are some of the best free events for you to check out!
Fleet Week Ship Tours
May 23-29 @ 8 a.m.
Pier 90, 51st St. @ 12th Ave., Manhattan, New York, NY 10019
There will be several Fleet Week events in New York, including free tours of U.S. Navy ships, U.S. Coast Guard cutters, and more. The ships at Pier 90 will include USS Arlington and the Canadian Forces HMCS Moncton (MM 708). There will also be FWNY tours at other locations, including:
Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, Pier 86 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.); Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, Homeport Pier in Staten Island; and Kings Point (U.S. Merchant Marine Academy).
Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit
May 26-28 & June 2-3 @ 12 p.m.

The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit happens twice a year, on Memorial Day weekend and the following weekend, and on Labor Day weekend. The sidewalk show highlights arts and crafts by artisans from around New York, as well as from around the nation and the world.
FWNY at Liberty State Park

There will be an afternoon of activities at Liberty State Park. The event will include USN helicopter static displays with an EOD fast rope demonstration, and a USCG search and rescue demonstration,
Brooklyn’s 151st Kings County Memorial Day Parade

Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY 11209
The 151st Kings County Memorial Day Parade will be a family-friendly event to honor the sacrifices of the military. Kids and adults will line the streets to watch veterans’ groups, community groups, marching bands, the NYPD and FDNY, and more as they march along the parade route. The parade will step off at 3rd Ave. & 78th St. in Bay Ridge. A memorial service will be held at John Jones Park (Cannonball Park) on 4th Ave. and 101st St. following the parade.
Memorial Day in Prospect Park
May 28 @ 12 p.m.
Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY 11225
The Prospect Park Alliance will host kid-friendly and family-friendly activities at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the 1912 Carousel, and Lefferts Historic House. Carousel Rides will be available from noon- 5 p.m. for $2.50/ride or $11.50/Book of 5 Rides. Admission will be free.
Memorial Day at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
Intrepid, Pier 86, Manhattan, New York, NY 10036
A USN missing man formation aerial salute will be done at Pier 86 at 10 a.m. to noon on Memorial Day. The squadron will be comprised of FA-18 Super Hornets, which are based out of Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach. The USCG Silent Drill Team will perform between 1-1:30 p.m. at the Intrepid. A USC helicopter will demonstrate a search and rescue in open water off Pier 86N from 2-2:30 p.m. There will also be free tours of the Sentinel-class cutter USCGC Richard Snyder (WPC 1127) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Memorial Day Ceremony

A ceremony in honor of Memorial Day will honor veterans along with USMC aviation static displays. The afternoon event will be free and open to the public.
