St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated with parades and special family-friendly events in Kansas City, Missouri and the surrounding area in 2018. The main event will be the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17, but there will be several holiday events on the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, including the Snake Saturday Parade and Festival.
Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Kansas City will be musical on St. Patrick’s Day, with the parade themed “The Pipes are Calling: A Celebration of Irish Music.” The parade will begin at Linwood & Broadway and proceed south along Broadway to 43rd St. The St. Paddy’s Day Parade has become the largest single-day civic event in Kansas City, with hundreds of Irish floats, marching bands, organizations, and more. Kids and adults will delight in the sights and sounds of this festive community event.
Snake Saturday Parade and Festival

St. Patrick is credited with leading the snakes out of Ireland, so North Kansas City celebrates with the Snake Saturday Parade and Festival. There will be a Free Children’s Area with activities including a barrel train, airbrush tattoos, petting zoo, pony rides, a zoo mobile, a tricycle obstacle course, and more. The festival will be open on Friday evening and again on Saturday (10 a.m.). The parade will step off on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Brookside St. Patrick’s Warm-Up Parade

The annual Brookside St. Patrick’s Warm-Up Parade is a family-friendly event held the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day. The family will enjoy the fun watching the parade of marchers, Irish dancers, vehicles, classic cars, floats, musicians playing music, bagpipers, and the mounted patrol. Dogs of all shapes and sizes will march, including Irish Setters, Great Danes, and Basset Hounds.
Hike with a Naturalist at Swope Park

Take the family for a guided hike, led by a naturalist. The March 10 hike will be the first of the hikes, which will be held twice a month through October. The path will be bumpy, so it will not be appropriate for children in strollers, but kids can walk or be carried by their parents. Enjoy getting outdoors in the early spring and learn about nature at this free event. Lakeside Nature Center also offers Mother Nature Reads every Saturday at 10 a.m., led by a volunteer. Children get to hear a story and make a craft and often see a wildlife interpretation.

The family-friendly parade in Lee’s Summit will feature floats, walking groups, Irish dancers, musicians, and fun. There will also be a Pot O’ Gold Coin Hunt for kids.

The animals at the Kansas City Zoo will enjoy special enrichment items and the family can enjoy watching their antics. There will be a special St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday at 11 a.m., when the llamas, goats, and other animals will parade through the zoo.
