St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah is celebrated with events that have become famous, including green fountains and one of the largest St. Patrick’s Parades in the U.S. Kids and adults will have fun at the famed Greening of the Fountain, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, and other fun-filled events in 2018.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Savannah is one of the largest and most famous St. Patrick’s events and is included in many lists as one of the biggest and best St. Patrick’s Parades in the U.S.  More than 350 marching units and up to 15,000 people will participate in the parade, which is usually attended by about 300,000 spectators. Kids and adults will enjoy watching the procession of Irish step dancers, elaborate floats, marching bands, bagpipers, military regimens, the Budweiser Clydesdales, and more. The historic parade was first held in 1824 and has run nearly every year since, except during major wars, including the Civil War and World War I. It’s a tradition for ladies to wear red lipstick and run out to smooch service members as they march in the parade.

Greening of the Fountain

Savannah is famous for the Greening of the Fountain for St. Patrick’s Day. During the ceremony, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshall will pour green dye into the water to transform it into a green attraction.

Irish Heritage Celebration Parade on Tybee Island

The 16th Annual Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade will be a family-friendly event. The parade will step off at Tybee City Hall and travel down Butler Ave. to Tybrisa St. The fun-filled event will be free and open to the public.

St. Patrick’s Day Festival
March 16-17 @ 10 a.m.
City Market and River Street, Downtown Savannah, Savannah, GA 31401

Join the fun at the two-day St. Patrick’s Day Festival, which will feature live entertainment and music on stages on City Market and on River Street. Vendors will line the streets with goodies for this family-friendly festival, which will be family-friendly, open to the public, and free to attend.

26th Annual March of Dimes Shamrock Run
March 9 @ 6 p.m.
Ellis Square, W. Congress St., Savannah, GA 31401

The 26th Annual March of Dimes Shamrock Run 5K is fun for people of all ages. A Kids Run at the start of the 5K will be fun for children. Costumes are encouraged to add to the fun. Dogs will also be welcome at this family-friendly celebration. 100% of the proceeds from the Shamrock Run benefit the March of Dimes, with a mission of improving the health of moms and babies. Registration in the 5K will be $35. Kids 10 and under can join the Kids Run for free.

Irish Heritage Society Dance

Dress to impress for this evening event at the Alee Shriner’s Temple. Entertainment will include some of the best Irish dancers in the area as they show off their Irish heritage, tradition, and talent. Tickets will be required
