The Thanksgiving season in Charlotte will be a time of homecomings and celebrations with family and friends. There will be several free holiday events with entertainment and fun for children and adults in 2017. Check out all the special holiday events in Charlotte and the surrounding area this year.

Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade

The largest parade in the Southeast will be in Charlotte on Thanksgiving Day. The entire family will delight at the spectacle of larger-than-life floats and balloons, musical marching bands, nationally known recording artists, dance teams, and surprises. The well-known Thanksgiving parade attracts a crowd of about 100,000 spectators on site and is watched by more than 180,000 television viewers.

Charlotte Christmas Village- Christkindlmarkt

The family will be charmed by the Charlotte Christmas Village, based upon the Old-World style European Christkindlmarkt. The market will open on Thanksgiving Day, after the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and will open through Christmas Eve. The village will feature vendors selling unique gift items and entertainment. Vendors will be selling sizzling German sausages and hot spiced Gluhwein, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Admission will be free but bring money for any purchases you wish to make at the market.

The Lights on the Square Uptown Tree Lighting in Charlotte will be a festive event offering entertainment and fun for the family.

Downtown Concord Tree Lighting Ceremony & Christmas Parade

The holidays will be kicked off on the weekend before Thanksgiving in Concord. The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, on Nov. 17 @ 6 p.m., will be a festive event with music, children’s amusement, Santa Claus, and more. The celebration will be highlighted by a show of fireworks. The 89th Annual Concord Christmas Parade will be on Nov. 18, starting at 2:30 p.m. Thousands of spectators will line the streets of Historic Downtown Concord for the popular holiday event.

Mooresville Christmas Parade

The Annual Mooresville Christmas Parade will be held on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The event will offer family fun with floats, marching bands, dance and tumbling troupes, and Santa Claus. The parade will be free and open to the public.

A Kannapolis Christmas Tree Lighting and Celebration of Lights

A Kannapolis Christmas will offer glittering decorations and fun for the entire family. The celebration will be kicked off with a tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 25. Village Park will be festively lighted through the holiday season. It will be free to walk through the park, or you can take the Winterland Express Train to see the decorations for $2/person.

21st Annual Sandhill Children’s Center Festival of Trees

The 21st Annual Sandhills Children’s Center Festival of Trees at the Carolina Hotel will be a delightful event for children and adults. The Carolina Hall will be transformed into a winter wonderland with over 100 decorated Christmas trees, decorated wreaths, gingerbread houses, and gift baskets. You will be able to bid on the decorated items via an online auction. Admission to the Festival of trees will be by any monetary donation.

Christmas in Davidson

Davidson will be decorated with a Christmas Tree Village and will be offering festive family-friendly activities for its Christmas celebration. The holiday celebration, which has an estimated attendance of 20,000 people each year, will be filled with family-fun that will put you into the holiday spirit. The popular Doggie Fashion Show will be on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.  Santa’s House will be at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Congregation House.

Harrisburg Christmas Tree Lighting

35th Annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade

The 35th Annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade will start in Davidson and march to Cornelius. The entire family will enjoy the parade of high school bands, tractors, horses, civic organizations, school groups, and more.
