The LA Galaxy II season is wrapping up for 2017. However, this is an important time in the soccer career of Galaxy II goaltender Eric Lopez. The netminder has been chosen to be one of two goaltenders for the United States under-18 team during their training camp in Spain.
Lopez, along with Brady Scott, who plays for FC Cologne in Germany, are part of the 20 player team that will train from Oct. 1 to Oct. 10 in Marbella, Spain. During the camp, the American U-18 team will play Belgium on Oct. 5 and Russia on Oct. 9.
This is a key time in the history of Russian soccer as the country will be hosting the 2018 World Cup from June 14 to July 15. During the month, there will be games played in 11 Russian cities--Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Volgograd, Saransk, Rostov-0n-Don, Sochi and Yekaterinburg. The stadium in Sochi was the one used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
It will be interesting to watch the development of the players attending the American camp in Spain and if any of them will be on the radar for future World Cups. The Galaxy II have one more home game this season. It will come on Saturday when they host the Portland Timbers 2 at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium. For tickets, please click here.
