The Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League signed defenseman Tyler Ferreira from the Rochester Knighthawks on Friday. The term of the contract is for two years.
Ferreira, who also been a forward and transition player in his lacrosse career, played four games with the Knighthawks during the 2017 NLL regular season. He had one assist, five penalty minutes, collected 19 loose balls, committed seven turnovers, caused two turnovers, had 16 shots and 14 shots on goal.
Ferreira also played four games with the Buffalo Bandits in 2016. That season he had two goals and four assists for six points, two power play points, collected 12 loose balls, four turnovers, committed one turnover, 31 shots and 25 shots on goal.
Ferreira was originally selected in the second round, 18th overall by the Bandits, in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft. He is 6'1", 175 pounds and 25 years of age.
Prior to playing in the NLL, Ferreira spent five seasons in the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League with the Halton Hills Bulldogs and Brampton Excelsiors from 2010 to 2014. He had 93 goals and 79 assists for 172 points in 101 games. In addition to playing high-level lacrosse, Ferreira has played high-level hockey. He played four games for the Brampton Capitals in the Ontario Junior Hockey League during the 2011-12 season and had one assist.
