Valentine's Day is for lovers; so is '90s R&B music. Put them together and you have the Valentine's Day 90’s Block Party (and quite possibly a bun in the oven).
Guy, Teddy Riley, Ginuwine, Jagged Edge, 112 and Next are all set for the special one-night event, which goes down on--you guessed it--Valentine's Day (Feb. 14) at the Bellco Theatre at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver. Pre sale for the show starts this Wednesday, Dec. 6; general on sale starts Friday, Dec. 8. Get your tickets for the show right here on AXS.com.
For those in need of a refresher, the event brings together some of the biggest stars of '90s R&B. Acclaimed singer and producer Teddy Riley was the driving force behind both Guy and Blackstreet. In addition to those artists, his work with Bobby Brown, Heavy D and Michael Jackson helped introduce the world to the defining sound of early '90s R&B: New Jack Swing.
Thanks to his association with Timbaland and Missy Elliott, Ginuwine was another pioneering artist in '90s R&B; his classic song "Pony" has to be included in any Best Of… playlist from the decade. So So Def signees Jagged Edge came along a bit later than the other artists, but they scored a massive, enduring hit in 2001 with the Nelly collaboration "Where The Party At." 112 were something like the in-house R&B group for Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records, joining forces with Puffy, Mase and The Notorious B.I.G. on may of their biggest hits. And Next went double platinum with their 1997 debut Rated Next, which included the smash "Too Close."
The stacked bill and the holiday make for a show so potent, it should come with a home pregnancy test. Take a listen to all of the aforementioned hits and more in the Spotify playlist below and follow this link for tickets to the Valentine's Day 90’s Block Party on Feb. 14 at the Bellco Theatre.
