Gillian Welch to perform 'The Harrow & the Harvest' in its entirety on tour

Stellar songsmith Gillian Welch and longtime collaborator Dave Rawlings have announced that they will release their Grammy-nominated 2011 album The Harrow and the Harvest on vinyl through Welch’s own Acony Records. Surprisingly, The Harrow and the Harvest will be Welch’s first vinyl release, she said in a statement according to The Country Note. The duo will also embark on a short tour where they will play the album in its entirety.

The tour gets underway July 30 in Charlottesville, Virginia before hitting markets including New York, Washington D.C. and Atlanta. The tour closes out Aug. 7 at the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 12 local time.

2011’s The Harrow and the Harvest was the follow up to 2003’s Soul Journey. Although eight years separated the two albums, Creation Records founder Alan McGee wrote in a blog post “the long gestation period signals nothing less than a perfect album.” After the album was released Welch herself said that she and Rawlings were frustrated with the songs they were writing. But all that time, consternation and hard work paid off as The Harrow and the Harvest was nominated for two Grammys and praised by critics from Rolling Stone to The Los Angeles Times.

You definitely don’t want to miss the albums authors performing the record live. You can find a full list of The Harrow and the Harvest tour dates below. You can check out the video for the Head and the Harvest track "Dark Turn of Mind" with previously unreleased footage above.
