After seven years, the British animated group Gorillaz has released their fifth studio effort Humanz. The album debuted at No. 2 on the May 9 Billboard Top 200 Albums chart update which combines sales, streaming data and digital downloads.
Humanz opens with an impressive 140,000 overall units comprised of that formula. Of that sum, 115,000 were in traditional album sales while the rest derived from streaming and track downloads. For every 1,500 streams of a song, that equates to one unit while ten downloads from a set also equals one unit. To date, this is Gorillaz' best sales week as they also take the No. 1 spot on Top Album Sales being the best-selling of all albums in the tracking week.
Gorillaz' previous album Plastic Beach released in 2010 opened at No. 2 as well with 112,000 copies sold back when only traditional album sales accounted for the Top 200 tally. 2005's Demon Days reached No. 6.
Gorillaz will embark on a 42-date worldwide tour beginning in June 2017. There are 17 shows scheduled for North America, 24 in Europe and one in Asia.
