2017 has started out pretty nicely for music festival junkies so far. A day after BottleRock and Coachella released each of their own respective 2017 lineups on Tuesday, New York City’s own Governors Ball (or GovBall) released their own lineup, which will feature Chance The Rapper, Phoenix, and Tool as the headlining performers.
Phoenix make their return to touring, with GovBall being the first date which they’ve announced so far into 2017. The French band last played at the three-day NYC festival back in 2014. Chance the Rapper’s independently-owned stock continues to rise, as this will be his first headlining show at a major music festival. We expect the acid rap Chicago kid will be up for it though. Tool, who were rumored to be headlining in the closing weeks of 2016, may just be the most anticipated act of the entire festival, and will bring certainly be shaking things up a bit following a day’s worth of mostly pop music with their alternative metal.
Other notable performers at GovBall, which will return to Randall’s Island this year on June 2-4, include Childish Gambino, Lorde, Flume, Wu-Tang Clan, Cage the Elephant, Mark Ronson vs. Tame Impala's Kevin Parker (we’ll go ahead and assume these will be competing DJ sets but don’t throw a knife fight out the window just yet), Schoolboy Q, The Avalanches, Phantogram, and Franz Ferdinand to name just a few.
Bonnaroo is also expected to release their own lineup next Wednesday, January 11.
