There’s just no stopping BTS! The beloved K-pop group has etched a permanent place in the hearts of their global ARMY fanbase and the world at large. And, they continue to make their record-breaking mark in the music industry as their latest album, Map of the Soul: Persona, was named the best-selling South Korean album of all time by Guinness World Records.
The charismatic septet — comprised of RM, Suga, V, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, and J-Hope — have engrained themselves in pop culture. Now, fans surround themselves with all sorts of BTS merchandise including dolls, calendars, clocks, toothbrushes, and more.
However, nothing compares to watching the boys in their musical elements. From busting out their smooth dance moves on late-night U.S. talk shows to selling out stadiums all over the world, adoring fans welcome any opportunity to show up and give the Bangtan Boys their anything but fake love.
Overall, BTS has enjoyed fantastic success this year and we want to take a moment to celebrate some of the greatest BTS moments of 2019 (so far!).
BTS EXHIBITION IN THE U.S. "24/7 = Serendipity (오,늘)”
We’ll launch our list with the exciting BTS exhibition experience that has begun in the U.S. The event chronicles the chart-topping boyband’s past, present, and future in glorious detail. Fans can revel in a showcase filled with behind-the-scenes moments of the band on their critically-acclaimed “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Tour.” They can also see a panorama of videos, photos, visuals, and memories the BTS boys documented themselves.
The experience also features exclusive merchandise for fans who attend one of the multiple exhibition sessions. The exhibition wrapped its run in New York earlier this month and will be making its way through Los Angeles and Chicago soon.
BTS ARMY snags Best Fan Army Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards
BTS has made it very clear their love for their global ARMY is entirely reciprocal. They couldn’t have been prouder when their beloved ARMY won the Best Fan Army Award at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
The guys weren't able to make it to the live award ceremony but still sent a super sweet video message to their fans. RM spoke for his bandmates as he addressed their ARMY saying, “We’re so proud of you guys and we couldn’t do what we do without your constant love and support for sure.”
The Bangtan Boys make their “SNL” debut
Many artists will probably attest that making their debut “Saturday Night Live” performance debut is a career pinnacle moment. BTS hit the “SNL” stage on April 13 and wowed the screaming (and crying) live crowd by performing “Mic Drop” and “Boy with Luv” live. Notably, their appearance marked an even bigger career milestone, as BTS became the first-ever k-pop group to appear as musical guests on the show.
Funko releases BTS Pop! collectible figures
The BTS members were immortalized as Funko Pop! collectibles, joining the likes of hundreds of pop culture icons that are honored with “bubblehead” likenesses. The BTS Funko set was revealed at Toy Fair New York 2019, along with rock legends KISS, Backstreet Boys, Post Malone, and more.
BTS gets a shoutout on “The Simpsons”
Of all the accolades an artist can receive, getting a “nod” on the legendary animated series “The Simpsons,” has to arguably be one of the most fun. In the “E My Sport” episode, Homer and his Simpson family crew take a trip to South Korea to attend a gaming competition. As they walk the streets, they pass signs written in both English and Korean, recognizing the band. One says, “BTS here today,” and another says, “BTS Army recruiting center.” How cool is that?
BTS earns a Grammy nomination and presents a Grammy Award
Given the monumental scale of BTS’ success, it was no surprise when the K-pop wonders scored their first Grammy nomination Best Recording Package for Love Yourself: Tear. They also lit up the Grammy red carpet, decked out in black-and-white tuxes, before presenting a Grammy Award to H.E.R., which she won for Best R&B Album for her self-titled EP.
As usual, RM acknowledged the ARMY, saying “We’re livin’ the dream. So, I should say thanks to all the Armies, they give us force.”
The Boys teams pp with Halsey for a “Boy with Luv” BBMAs performance
BTS is no stranger to the Billboard Music Awards stage. This year, they delivered a mind-blowing worldwide live performance debut of their Halsey collab single “Boy with Luv.” To say the BBMA audience was enthusiastic is an understatement. Plus, BTS scooped up two more BBMA wins by claiming Top Duo/Group and Top Social Artist (for the third year in a row!).
Mattel to make BTS dolls
Another sign a star has made it? Mattel will make a doll of them – and the famous toymaker certainly did! Fans can cuddle their RM, Suga, Jimin, Jin, V, Jungkook, and J-Hope dolls to their heart’s content. Or, put them in a special curio cabinet and adoringly gaze at them. The dolls aren't currently on the market, but presales for the super cute toys recently opened for fans to snag them up.
BTS ranks above Ed Sheeran and Queen in a Global Ranking
In March, the International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI) released its 2018 rankings of Top 10 Global Recording Artists and Top 10 Global Albums and BTS claimed the No. 2 artist ranking just under Drake and notably above huge pop stars like Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, and rock legends, Queen.
Plus, in the albums ranking, they snagged the No. 2 and No. 3 spots for Love Yourself: Answer and Love Yourself: Tear, respectively.
Fans can control the Boys’ career in a New Mobile Game
If fans want to immerse themselves in the Bangtan Boys’ lives, they can do so in a new virtual simulation mobile game called “BTS World.” Players get to assume the role of BTS’ talent manager – and thus make career decisions for them. The title features over 10,000 exclusive photos and 100 exclusive video clips of the septet – and players can even interact with the virtual band members via phone, video calls, and text messages.
Map of the Soul: Persona breaks records
BTS released their album, Map of the Soul: Persona on April 12. Given their chart-busting past success, it probably comes as no surprise that the album is officially confirmed as the best-selling South Korean album of all time, according to Guinness World Records. As of May 2019, the album sold over 3.3. million copies in the band’s home country. It also topped charts across the globe, including the UK Albums Chart and the Billboard 200 chart here in the U.S.
