Gwen Stefani is the latest music star to get a Christmas special on NBC. The network has announced via press release that Stefani will headline an hour-long holiday-themed variety show, entitled "Gwen Stefani's You Make It Feel Like Christmas," on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 9 p.m.
The special takes its title from Stefani's holiday album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas, which she released on Oct. 6. Her first ever Christmas album, the record has had a solid if not stellar reception; it was number one on Billboard's Top Holiday Albums Chart, but so far has not cracked the Top 50 on the overall Billboard 200. The album, in turn, takes its name from the record's single "You Make It Feel Like Christmas," which you can listen to by playing the video above. It's a duet with Blake Shelton, whom NBC said in its press release will be appearing in Stefani's TV special to perform the song there.
The network's release further explains that "Gwen Stefani's You Make It Feel Like Christmas" will be a blend of musical performances and comedy sketches. Other than Shelton, Stefani will be joined by comedienne Chelsea Handler, "The Orville" star and "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, actor Ken Jeong, and NE-YO, who is one of the judges on NBC's summer reality series "World of Dance."
"Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year," Stefani said in the press release. "I am excited to share my new holiday album with everyone and the joy of this holiday season. I look forward to giving audiences a peek into our family’s favorite Christmas traditions and enjoying some of the music, old and new, that makes the holiday so special."
NBC has a history of providing holiday TV specials to musical artists, particularly those with a connection to the network. Stefani's fellow "The Voice" coach Shelton starred in his "Blake Shelton's Not So Country Christmas" special, and future "Voice" coach Kelly Clarkson had "Kelly Clarkson's Cautionary Music Tale." Other acts that have had Christmas specials on NBC include "Voice" season 3 Team Blake mentor Michael Buble and Pentatonix, who were the winners of NBC's singing competition "The Sing-Off" before shooting to fame.
All of their specials featured a combination of music and comedy, so Stefani's special is the latest in the network's well-established history of holiday celebrations. Music fans will have to see how Stefani adds to the collection next month.
"Gwen Stefani's You Make It Feel Like Christmas" airs Dec. 12 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
