It is time to get the Halloween costumes ready so kids can go out to the many special events being held in the Raleigh, Durham, and Fayetteville area of North Carolina in 2017. Check out all of the fun family-friendly events featuring children’s activities this year.

Lights of Halloween
Oct.1-28 (Fri. & Sat.) @ 6:30 p.m.
Broken Plow Farm, 1851 Avents Ferry Rd., Sanford, NC

Take the kids out of a kid-friendly hayride around the farm. The 30-minute hayride will show the lighted Halloween displays and a light show. Tickets $9.

Fall Festival and Haunted House
Oct. 13 @ 6 p.m.
Forest Hills Park, 1639 University Dr., Durham, NC 27707

Durham Parks and Recreation will present this festival with fun for kids, including a kids’ costume contest with prizes. There will also be fun games and a haunted house. Admission will be a donation of canned food (1-4 cans) from each family.

Haunting at Harris: Rise of the Legends!
Oct. 14 @ 1 p.m.
Harris Lake County Park, Holly Springs & Willow Springs, New Hill, NC

This Halloween event will be free and fun for the family. Meet famous characters of lore, including the Loch Ness Monster, Blackbeard, Paul Bunyan, and more. Activities will include games, crafts, face painting, and more. Tickets for wagon rides will be available on a limited basis.

Smith’s Nursery Annual Fall Festival
Oct. 21 @ 10 a.m.
Smith’s Nursery, 443 Sanders Rd., Benson, NC 27504

There will be fall fun for the family at this festival, including hayrides, music, face painting, a fire truck demonstration, bounce houses, farm animals, and more. Admission will be $5.

Halloween Spooktacular
Oct. 22 @ 4 p.m.
Northgate Mall, 1058 W. Club Blvd., Durham, NC 27701

The Paperhand Puppet Intervention will be at Northgate for the fourth annual Halloween Spooktacular, a family-friendly event featuring activities for children. Activities will include a costume contest and costume parade, music, face painting, and a performance by Paperhand Puppet.

Haunted Mordecai Festival
Oct. 28 @ 12 p.m.
Mordecai Historic Park, 1 Mimosa St., Raleigh, NC 27612

Enjoy an afternoon of Halloween-themed family fun, featuring music, games, crafts, and more. There will be costume contests for kids up to 15 years of age. The festival will be free to attend and open to the public.

Marbles Kooky Spooky Halloween Party
Oct. 28 @ 6 p.m.
Marbles Kids Museum, 201 East Hargett St., Raleigh, NC 27601

Have a spooky good time at the Marbles Kids Museum with activities like Ghoul School, Monster Mash Dance Party, Mad Scientist Lab, and more. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult.Tickets $12-$18.

Halloween Parade
Oct. 31 @ 2 p.m.
North Carolina Museum of History, 5 East Edenton St., Raleigh, NC 27601

The Halloween Parade will be led by First Lady of North Carolina, Kristin Cooper. The parade will step off at Bicentennial Plaza and will conclude at the Governor’s Mansion. Dress in Halloween costumes and join the fun. Crafts will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
