Halloween events for kids in Washington DC 2017

Kids will get to dress up in Halloween costumes and enjoy the colorful family-friendly events being held in Washington DC in 2017. Check out the special Halloween events in the nation’s Capital City this year.

Halloween Eye Spy Trains
Oct. 7-29 (Sat. & Sun.) @ 10 a.m.

Wheaton Train & Carousel, Wheaton Regional Park, 2002 Shorefield Rd., Wheaton, MD 20902

There will be Halloween trains at two parks, the Cabin John Park and the Montgomery Park. The trains will be decorated for Halloween and will be great for kids 8 and under. Tickets $6.

Halloween on the Green
Oct. 14 @ 10:30 a.m.
Town Green, Vienna, VA 22180

The Vienna Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor this family-friendly fall event featuring a petting zoo, games, prizes, crafts, pumpkin carving, and treats.

Boo at the Zoo

The zoo will offer a family-friendly event for kids for Halloween, with more than 40 treat stations, decorations, animal demonstrations, pumpkin carving demonstrations, and some spooky animals. Treat stations will include treats for people of all ages, including adult treats like food tastings and craft beer. Boo at the Zoo is a popular event, so purchase tickets in advance. Tickets $20/members, $30/non-members.

Air & Scare at the Air & Space Museum

The spooky side of air and will entertain the family at the annual Halloween event at the Air & Space Museum. Kids will get to dress in costume and enjoy safe indoor trick-or-treating, spooky science experiments, and other themed activities. Admission will be free, but parking will be $15.

71st Annual Halloween Parade
Oct. 25 @ 6 p.m.
Maple Ave., Vienna, VA 22180

Kids, accompanied by an adult, will be welcome to join in the parade and walk along in Halloween costumes.  Meet at the United Bank Parking lot at 6 p.m. to line up for the 7 p.m. parade.  

Alsatia Mummers Parade
Oct. 28 @ 6 p.m.
N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740

The annual Mummers Parade will feature high school marching bands, costumed mummers, local clubs, and more.

Del Ray Halloween Parade
Oct. 29 @ 2 p.m.
Mt. Vernon Recreation Center: 2701 Commonwealth Ave., Alexandria, VA 22305

The Del Ray Parade and activities will be free and open to the public. More than 7,500 participants, including about 2,500 children participated in last year’s parade. The parade will also include pets in Halloween costumes. There will also be free goodie bags for children, refreshments, live music, and children’s games and activities. After the parade, families will enjoy the free Spooky Bean Haunted Halloween Circus.

Leesburg Kiwanis Halloween Parade
Oct. 31 @ 6 p.m.
King Street between Ida Lee Park & Safeway, Leesburg, VA

The Leesburg Kiwanis Halloween Parade will celebrate its 61st anniversary in 2017. A  family-friendly and kid-friendly event, the parade will include marching bands, police cars, fire trucks, floats, horseback riders, and more. Candy will be passed out along the parade route.
