Funk rock fans rejoice; Here Come the Mummies will once again be crawling out of their graves and hitting the road in early 2018.
On Nov. 28, the Mummies announced the Wicked Never Rest Tour on Facebook, which will include shows in Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, New York and Denver, Colo.’s Bluebird Theater. Tickets for this sure to be invigorating series of live shows go on sale Dec. 1 at 10 a.m.
While the identity of the group’s members remains one of the best-kept secrets in the music industry, it is known that Here Come the Mummies was founded in the year 2000 in Nashville, Tenn. The group announced themselves to the world with their 2002 debut album Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave. The band’s talent for creating sweet funk and ska tunes and penchant for witty double entendres quickly won them a dedicated cult audience.
Since their formation, the group has been incredibly prolific considering their undead status. To date, they have produced nine studio albums, four EPs, three compilations, two live records and they’ve contributed a song to the soundtrack of the underrated 2009 teen comedy “Fired Up!” Their most recent release is A Blessing and A Curse, which was released in 2016 via Sphinxter Records.
