Greater Bridgeport Symphony

The Greater Bridgeport Symphony presents Holiday Interlude, Saturday December 16 at the Klein in Bridgeport Connecticut. The GBS is becoming the go-to attraction across Southwestern Connecticut performing classic music under the direction of Eric Jacobsen. Eric Jacobsen will lead GBS’ world-class musicians in Holiday Interlude with selections from a holiday favorite, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. These favorites will be performed alongside Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, Strauss’s Tales of the Vienna Woods, and a Christmas/Hanukkah sing-a-long.  This concert will be the third of five GBS concerts this season.

“The holiday season is such a special time in Bridgeport,” says Jacobsen.  “The Klein will be filled to the rafters with joyful people and joyful music.”

Along with the GBS, Eric will have the pleasure of leading world-renowned Concert Cellist Allison Eldredge. She will appear with two talented musicians from Young Talent Chamber Music. This group of youngsters was founded by Eldredge and her mother, Yoshie Akimoto.  Ten-year-old pianist Hudson Ragins from Yonkers, NY and twelve-year-old violinist Zoe Lonsinger from Sandy Hook, CT are both international prize winning musicians that will be joining Eldredge for part of The Nutcracker.

Eldridge started her professional career in 1986 when she debuted with GBS. That year she went on to win the GBS youth competition. Executive Director Mark Halstead says “GBS really is one big family, Allison is a big part of what GBS is and represents, and her mother, Yoshie, happens to be the teacher of one of our favorite soloists, pianist Alex Beyer.” Beyer also won the GBS youth competition several years back, and has performed with GBS as a soloist several times in the past years including this seasons premiere concert.

On the night of the 16th, the music filling the Klein will be familiar to the growing audience, The Nutcracker is a staple of the Christmas season. The great Classics, the Fifth Symphony and Vienna Woods, recall memories of wonderful winter scenes filled with the magic of Christmas’ past.
