Awards season isn’t over just yet. The more family friendly 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards will be taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Calif. this summer on June 22. The sixth running of the annual awards show will also be broadcasted on the Disney Channel and Radio Disney starting the next day, June 23, as well as a full stream available for fans to hear online.
The Radio Disney Music Awards decide on their winners via online voting, which is scheduled to begin later this month on April 27, with any fan welcome to participate. While MTV hands out their silver moon men and golden popcorn statues, and the Academy Awards give out that coldly frozen bald figure, the Radio Disney Music Awards provide winners with a more fitting trophy named, “ARDY,” a gold-colored Mickey Mouse wearing a pair of headphones. Over the last few years, the event has taken place at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, so the show’s producers and fans should be filled with anticipation and excitement for their new home at the Dolby Theatre, which is located a few miles north in the shadows of the Hollywood Hills.
The show’s producers also have yet to announce this year’s performers. The 2017 production featured live performances from teen pop stars including Alessia Cara, Kelsea Ballerini, Julia Michaels and Noah Cyrus, just to name a few, so viewers should expect another impressive schedule of singers and musicians this year as well. With the show’s programming customized to reach a younger audience, typical award categories are structured to fit the lifestyle of teen-aged music fans. The Radio Disney categories range from “Best Crush Song,” “Best Breakup Song,” “Best Song To Lip Sync To” and “Favorite Social Media Star.”
Fans should stay tuned as the award show will be revealing their nominees, host(s) and performers in the coming months leading up to the event in late June.
