The Ontario Reign clinched a Calder Cup playoff spot on April 6 after their 3-2 win over the San Diego Gulls at the Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign became the seventh team that qualified for the Calder Cup Playoffs and will play the Texas Stars in the Pacific Division semi-finals. Game three of the series will be a matinee at 3 p.m. PT on April 22, while game four of the series (if necessary) will take place in the evening of April 24 at 7 p.m. PT. The first two games of the series will take place at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Tex. Game one of the series will be on April 19 at 7 p.m. CT and game two of the series will be on April 20 at 7 p.m. CT. The winner of the Reign and Stars series will play the winner of the Pacific Division semi-final involving the San Jose Barracuda and the Tucson Roadrunners.
The Reign finished the 2017-18 American Hockey League regular season with a record of 36 wins, 25 regulation losses and seven losses in extra time (four in overtime and three in a shootout) for a winning percentage of .581. The Stars finished the 2017-18 American Hockey League regular season with a record of 38 wins, 24 regulation losses and 14 losses in extra time (eight in overtime and six in a shootout) for a winning percentage of .592.
Head-to-head this season, the Reign and Stars played four times with Ontario winning three times. Ontario beat Texas 4-2 on Dec. 13, 4-3 in overtime on Dec. 20 and 3-2 in a shootout on Jan. 15. Texas beat Ontario 4-2 on Dec. 9.
