Irish-born singer and soulful rock guitarist Hozier has finally announced his upcoming return to North America for the first performances since 2015. Andrew Hozier-Byrne revealed his upcoming run of 16 headlining shows this fall on Monday morning, which begins in Ontario on Sept. 15 and continues until the latter half of October. The tour will be part of his highly anticipated sophomore album campaign, which the young singer also detailed on Monday morning.
The tour starts out with a handful of shows across Canada before hitting mostly major cities throughout the United States. His fall tour schedule also includes previously announced appearance at both weekends of ACL Fest and Tennessee’s Pilgrimage Music Festival to balance out his own headlining gigs. Notable venues on the tour include shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre, Washington’s Lincoln Theatre and Seattle’s Paramount Theatre, just to name a few.
“I think musically it's a logical step forward from previous records,” he said in the new interview in reference to the upcoming studio album, which has yet to receive a title or release date as of Monday. “Thematically, not that it was intentional, but it's definitely informed quite a bit by the political climate of the last 12 months, 18 months. I hope it's taken with a bit of a pinch of salt.”
Hozier also goes on to explain about all the music that he hasn’t listened to while working on his own material in the studio, while also praising the prominence of hip-hop at the moment and artists like Kendrick Lamar. He also shared some of the lyrics for a soon-to-be-released new single titled "Wasteland, Baby!," which can be read below.
"All the fear and the fire at the end of the world / Happens each time a boy falls in love with a girl / Happens grace, happens sweet / Happily, I'm unfazed here, too / Wasteland, baby, I'm in love with you / And I love to, that love soon might end / And be known in its aching, it's shown in the shaking / Lately of my Wasteland, baby / be still, my indelible friend / You are unbreaking, though quaking, though crazy / That's Wasteland, baby."
Tickets for select shows on the upcoming fall tour will be going on sale to the public beginning this Friday, June 15, and can be purchased by clicking here.
